We All Hate That Other Spin Class
There is nothing scarier then Evil when her back is way up. There seems to be a little conflict between our gal and the head of the Y's wellness department. And the cause of the friction is the so called cycle class that runs on Sunday at noon.
As this reporter has reported in the past(see I can spell it correctly ERSG)Evil is a trained instructor, she is certified, she has degrees she is the queen, number one, top of the heap a number one. These little town blues are...........wait a minute I got carried away and started to sing New York New York, sorry. Get the picture, she knows what she is doing.
The group on Sunday use the cycle in a different way. Our gals mantra is that we ues the bikes as we would a bike you would ride on the road. The Sunday weirdos exercise as they pedal, push ups, standing on their heads pedaling with theirs ears. It's a real mess. And what is happening with them doing this crazy exercise is that the bikes are falling apart. And this is another reason our gal is going bat shit over this. And you don't want to get in our gals way when she wounded, it's very scary.
This Saturday past there was a get together for a couple of the people that take the spin class. This is a core group that has been doing it for many years. This get together is with each significant others, so when the conversation goes to all spin all the time, the mates go quite. But you know what it's what we have in common. So when our gal, Evil with a couple of glasses of wine in her, started to go off on the Sunday group, that was all she wrote. You just sit back and agree with what ever she is saying.
"Yes Evil your right."
"No I don't think you should have a mob hit."
"No I don't have any way of contacting Tonya Harding."
So that is how the night went and it was a good night with all attending having a great time with good food, good drink and good company.

I don't know about the rest of the people in attendance at the gathering, but I'm pretty sure I witnessed the ERSG muttering curses under her breath...I would watch out if I were the leader of the Sunday spin group...I think Amy is out to get you...
I could see her one day being lead away in cuffs on the 6 o'clock new.

Yes, I have gone off the edge. I'd like to chime in on the humor but, I am pissed way beyond all levels of pissed off-ness. I am not sure what to do next. How do I continue to teach in an environment which doesn't support basic levels of safety? That type of class ( I can't even call it cycling) is way below the standards we have come to know at our Y.
Oh yeah, forgot to say that I'm am not out to get psycho on any volunteer "instructor" whether they are certified or not. It's not about the person. It's about "what they tell the participants to do"" and "how" they lead the class. Have fun, play the loud disco music and go ahead and dance on the pedals. Just stop all the B.S. moves, isolations, hovers, pushups and riding without resistance!
Good fun.
Serenity now.....Serenity now.....Serenity now. ERSG why don't you come out of your shell and tell us how you really feel.
Just watch me :P
If the YMCA is going to allow random, uncertified instructors for spin, then the brochure needs to reflect that information in its contents, in my opinion. We do NOT want unsuspecting NEW spinners to think that the Sunday ride guy is providing typical experiences for spin. The brochure should show that Amy's class is not "various instructors" as it now shows and it needs to indicate that she is a "certified instructor." I'll go a step further to add that Amy's should say something about "safety emphasized" whereas the Sunday guy's should be "ride at your own risk."
Well said , Heidi. Thanks for your support :) I would like to mention though that we do have two very talented volunteer (uncertified) cycling instructors ( Willie and Mary) and Dan who do teach creative, fun, safe and effective classes. The most important factor is that they both desire to keep the workout realistic to the outdoor cycling world. All those crazy, fluffy moves that the Sunday class adds are used to distract the rider. It's as if riding a bike that goes nowhere is boring'!!!!. Well it is, when you don't have a plan! But, as you all know we have a grand plan and a purpose for every ride. Heidi, you should fill out a comment card and express your thoughts. My efforts failed. So, I am hoping the members and other instructors can help build some momentum with this issue.
