A Visit To My Fathers

This pass weekend my wife and I made a trip down to Florida to seem my dad. We left on Thursday and returned on Sunday, a short trip is about all I can handle.  It's not that I don't want to see my father, it's just his lifestyle is a little anti me.  How about watching the game show network all day. If I kind of dozed off a little and woke up to spot the Pyramid show from the eighty's, it was like a LSD flashback. Contestants with puffy hair, giant knotted ties and long sideburns brings back the era in a flash.

And how about waking up every day at 5AM and to bed at 6:30 PM. That's my dads life.My father is losing his hearing so the game show channel is a little bit louder than the Concord taking off. But you know that's small stuff,"What? I can't hear a thing." it was really nice to be with him again.

There was a change in Florida and it was that my dad told some stories about his time in WW2. Growing up he never wanted to talk about what went on during the war.  He was a part of the Normandy invasion, wounded three times and had seen some horrific combat.

After being wounded he was sent to a Paris hospital. After being released he was sent up to the north to guard German prisoners.  There he became the driver for his CO. The CO was making a trip to the south and wanted to visit his niece in Paris, who was a ballerina. So my father spent a couple of days in Paris in a upscale apartment, had gourmet food and even got to go to the Follies Bergere. So at the end of the war he was in a good place.

He told a couple of other stories that I had never heard before and for me it was a little insight into the man who I grew up with who was never open about what was going on in his world.

Well we made it back and I even caught myself looking for the game show network.  Someone please help me.

You're gonna need a hearing aide after that visit Willie. But hey, like father like son, eh? Sounds like a cool bugger.

Wheel! Of! Fortune!!!!
