Golf, what is it good for?....... Absolutely nothing!

Sunday I had the day to myself as my wife and her friend had gone to Portland to bow down and make a offering to the shopping gods. So I say to myself "Now I can walk around the house with no pants on." No, I can come up with something better than that, although the pants thing is very inviting. OK lets go play nine holes at the Goose River Golf Club. The last time I played I was just terrible, I wanted to climb back on the golf horse and renew the feelings that I am not without some golf skills. So off I go. As I was signing up to play I asked the man behind the counter if anybody had found a gold ball that I had lost the last time I played here. It is a little joke that I was playing on the man, as every time I play a round of golf I lose up to 10 balls in 18 hole round. The man behind the counter got it and we both had a good laugh. Off to the first tee I go. The first tee,a par 5, I hit a terrific drive right down the middle. Second shot, with a three wood, was straight and long , to within 100 yards of the green. As I was walking off the green after putting out for a 9, I knew that the wheels were coming off. And 65 strokes and 10 lost balls later I had guessed correctly. I love playing golf but it does not like me. For as much as I have played in my life time I should have mastered some of the skill, but no. I am just as bad as the first time I picked up a club 30 years ago. Maybe the next time I play I will put it all together and play that round that I know that I have the skills for, and maybe not.
