Moving right along on the health-a-palosa tour. Last week I had a stress test at the hospital. While I was on the treadmill, for the stress test, the doctor, Dr. Coyle, asked me if I worked out. He said this every time he turned up the speed on the treadmill. So I am thinking I have aced this test and will be on my way back to workout heaven really quickly.
After the test the doctor sits down with me and shows me the electrocardiogram. It starts out good and then he shows the part that did not looks so good. It seems that my heart rhythm started to speed up and that is not good. So I'm thinking to myself, self a couple of pills and kick me out of the door and I will be on my way. But then he told me that I needed to set up a appointment with him to discuss what to do next. And by the way stop exercising. Holy crap, what the heck is going on here. I feel really good, this cannot be happening to me. What's it going to be like to workout in the future, will I be taking up curling or thumb wrestling.
This Thursday I went to see Dr Coyle. Let me say right here that there should be some kind of card or something that you carry that has your personal health information on it, so you can just hand it over and not have to fill out the same information every time you go to a different doctor. I have, because of this heart thing, filled out the same sheet at least 200 times, the 200 is exaggeration to make my point very clear.
Well any way, at Dr Coyles office my wife and I are led into the examination room and waited for the good doctor. When the doctor entered the room I was taken back by the way he was dressed. Let me explain. People in Maine dress very casually, there are not to many ties being worn or high heels on women. If you are going out to a nice place to eat, a new sweatshirt is very acceptable.
Dr Cole was dressed in a tailored dark gray suit, with a cashmere sweater to match. His shoes were sort of a oxblood loafer that looked very expensive. His hair was styled like he was a military guy. I was expecting him to say "Hi my name is Bond, James Bond."
He check me out and then told me what the next step will be, and that is that I am going, this Thursday, to Portland to have a cardiac catherization or a coronary angiography, where a dye is injected, to see if there is some kind of blockage. After this test it will give the doctor information about what is the best treatment for my problem.
So that is were I am now. It is a little scary, but I know that I will get through this and move on to the next medical problem associated with growing older. The problem is that I feel great, I have no pain or anything associated with a heart problem. So I will be letting all four people who follow this blog in on this trip.
And lastly I would like to give a shout out to my parents, who gave me these genes, thanks a lot.
