The Squirrel Lady

My friend Kate is changing, and how is she changing you ask. She is changing from a sophisticated world traveler who is comfortable were ever she is in the world. She has a great fashion sense, even with living in Maine where the height of fashion is wearing a rubber boot that is not yellow. She always looks dressed up. And how you ask is she changing, she is now known to me as "Kate the Squirrel Eliminator". And how did she get this moniker.

Kate has a beautiful home on the end of a small peninsula. It is a great spot with a lot of woods with the bay near by. It was the house that she used to dream about living in, when she was a child. Last year or so she was working at home and heard a noise in her kitchen. When she went to investigate, she discovered that a red squirrel had gotten into her home. And that when it all changed for Kate. She first called a local pest eliminator guy and he set up some traps, and he did catch a couple of the little peckers. But every time she thinks there are no more squirrel invasions, one shows up. About two months ago she had enough. "They have broken the rule of, you stay out of my house and I will not try to live in your house of leaves".

She is now a regular at the Lowe's store, where they can't keep the rat traps on the shelf, because our gal in buying everyone. She is setting them up around her house and is catching them regularly. And they just keep coming. She said that there must be a heard of squirrels in that area a Maine and that they keep sending in a new one every other day.

When she catches one she won't touch it, so she scoops it up with a shovel and flings it in the woods. She now has a pile of squirrel 10 feet hight and it is growing. Give Kate a couple more months and the red squirrel will be on the endangered list. I sugested that she should make a squirrel coat or a hat, from the pelts, like Davey Crocket use to wear.

Kate has come along way from sophisticated world traveler,to "The Squirrel Lady".
